Building Design

With expertise in compliance with NCC 2022 and a deep understanding of Gold Coast and Brisbane town planning regulations. My work reflects a strong commitment to meeting local planning standards and delivering high-quality, regionally compliant designs.

My qualifications Include:

  • Certificate IV – Drafting
  • Certificate IV – Business

  • Diploma – Building Design (Currently Studying)

Utilising the following software to produce precise, high-quality drawings that meet all project requirements:

Autodesk products are my preferred CAD tools for creating designs ranging from simple garages to complex BIM projects. With over 3-4 years of experience using Revit and AutoCAD, I continuously refine my skills to ensure increasing high-quality, efficient designs.

Codes & Regulations:

Through ongoing study, I have maintained up-to-date knowledge of the BCA (NCC) by attending regular webinars and short courses to stay informed about Australia’s building requirements. I’m currently a member of the BDQ helping also to keep up to date with industry news.

Specialising in NSW and QLD, I am well-versed in key regulations, including the HIA (Housing Industry Association), QDC (Queensland Development Code), Queensland Building Act 1975, Queensland Planning Act 2016, New South Wales Home Building Act 1989, and New South Wales Building Professionals Act 2005.

I aim to ensure compliance with Australian Standards where required, with a particular focus on AS 1684 (Timber Framed Construction) for both cyclonic and non-cyclonic conditions, including span tables, as well as AS 1100 (Technical Drawing). Other volumes of Australian Standards I work to meet at a minimum are AS/NZ 1170 – Structural Design Actions, AS 3959 – Constructions of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas and AS 1428 – Design for Access and Mobility.

Local council regulations are a specialty of mine, driven by a strong enthusiasm for understanding and navigating all levels of compliance requirements. I have hands-on experience working with a variety of councils, including Tweed, Byron, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Cairns.

This experience has honed my ability to interpret and apply regional planning and development guidelines, ensuring projects meet local standards while addressing community expectations and environmental considerations.

Examples of Work:

Duplex (Cairns – Cyclonic Area):

As part of my Cert IV studies, I was able to full design and draft up working drawings for a duplex that met the NCC and AS 1684 and local Cairns town planning requirements.

Queenslander – Heritage Overlay (Brisbane).

Another project completed during my studies involved a deep dive into detailed design, with a strong focus on services compliance and the Brisbane Heritage Overlay for Highgate Hill. This work required careful attention to preserving heritage values while ensuring local town planning compliance standards were met.

Modern Townhouse – Thermal Re-Design (Gold Coast)

An example project which used an old, outdated design to improve thermal performance and energy efficiency.

Holiday Cabin – Gold Coast

This design worked with a very difficult site featuring slopes and protected trees. The plan was to incorporate the design into the existing terrain and topography. The Clients intent was to use to property on weekends and for holiday periods but wanted to maximise privacy and energy efficiency. Orientation and building materials played a large role in meeting the brief.
